About the Publication Data

The publications explorer and research-impact dashboard on this site are built from a curated database of peer-reviewed publications by SES faculty and students.

How the data is collected

• Google Scholar, weekly. Every week, an automated pipeline checks the Google Scholar profile of each SES faculty member, refreshes citation counts for every publication, and adds newly published papers.
• Since 2009. Statistics cover publications from 2009 onward, the era of the modern school.
• Peer-reviewed only. Conference abstracts, preprints, and similar materials are filtered out automatically.

How authors are identified

• Faculty matching. Publications are attributed to SES faculty by matching author names (including initials and name variants) against the faculty roster, bounded by each person's years at NAU.
• Student identification. Graduate-student co-authors are detected against the SES student roster, with publication dates checked against enrollment periods. Undergraduate co-authors are added by hand.
• Human verification. Records are reviewed and corrected by people; verified records are protected from automated changes (except citation counts).

What the numbers mean

• H-index is computed school-wide: the largest number h such that h SES publications have each been cited at least h times.
• Citations come from Google Scholar and change continuously; our copies refresh weekly.
• Student papers count publications with at least one SES graduate or undergraduate student among the authors.

Infrastructure

The site is a static Astro build hosted on GitHub Pages. The publication database lives as version-controlled CSV files in the site's repository; every change is tracked, validated, and reviewable. Weekly data updates and the monthly student-research news features are handled by automated agents supervised by SES faculty.
